Prayer and fasting

Prayer and fasting

21 days Prayer and Fasting | March 5 – 28, 2024

FYI: We will not be fasting on Sundays during this special time.

We’re thankful that collectively we can once again enter into a period of fasting and praying. It is my prayer each member will fast, pray and seek the Lord during the month of March as we prepare to commemorate the death and resurrection of our savior and elder brother Jesus Christ and embark on our missionary journey in Harvey.

Fasting is voluntarily going without food—or some other regularly enjoyed gift from God —for spiritual purposes. In short, we fast from food so we can feast on God. Fasting is not our attempt to manipulate God to do what we want Him to do. Fasting does not bring God into alignment with our desires but brings our desires into alignment with God’s.

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 17:21 that certain types of powers only come when we fast and pray. My Shepherd’s family, as we embark on this journey, let us do so with the intent to become stronger in the Spirit, steadfast in the Scriptures and secure in our Savior.

There are several  different types of fasts such as Daniel, media, partial, abstaining from certain foods or activities. You can mix  it up, or create your own. The main thing to remember is – don’t make it all about what you eat or don’t eat.  This is all about drawing closer to God and replacing distractions to pray, study our Bibles and seek God like never before. Regardless to the type of fast you choose, please limit any secular media, music and viewing during this special time to Christian and gospel centric options.

Please consult your physician if you are taking medications or have concerns about your physical ability to fast, before starting your fast. Understand the type of fast you choose is between you and God. God will honor your best sacrifice.
